A: After cleaning and disinfecting a wound with warm, clean water and antibacterial soap, apply antibiotic ointment to prevent infection. Waterproof bandages and gauze can be used to close and dress minor wounds, but deeper and more serious wounds may require stitches and staples.
A: For superficial first or second-degree burns of less than 3 inches, clean the burn with cool (not cold) water and mild soap.
