Oklahoma City Breast Cancer Survivor Sarah McLean Shares Her Story
Posted in
Sarah McLean was only 25 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a lumpectomy, it was discovered the cancer had already spread, so Sarah opted for a double mastectomy.
Eight years after the initial diagnosis, Sarah learned she had cancer again. She had a second lumpectomy and 48 treatments of high-dose radiation. Two years later, she experienced some complications due to radiation, and in 2013 she underwent an invasive surgery called a latissimus-dorsi flap reconstruction.
Sarah's determination to help others and their families through the healing process led her to start a local non-profit called Project31 that offers a variety of monthly support groups and services to embrace, equip, and empower those affected by breast cancer.
