Recent high temperatures have us dreaming of cool weather, turning leaves and all the fun local events happening this fall in Oklahoma. Enrich your season with some of these family friendly, healthy events in Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas.
Local Festivals and Events
May through October (Final even October 5)
$5 per person
If biking or running is a popular activity for your family, try the Full Moon Bike Ride and Run. This one hour ride starts at the Myriad Gardens and winds through downtown areas under the full moon.
September 7-9
The Bluegrass and Chili Festival in Claremore, Oklahoma is a three-day festival with bluegrass music, a chili cook-off and activities like dancing, singing and outhouse races (where people push outhouses on wheels), as well as a kiddie corral for the family.
September 9
Oklahoma to the core, SeptemberFest is a free event at the Governor’s Mansion, featuring crafts, music, agricultural exhibits, chuckwagon cooking and other activities that explore Oklahoma’s heritage.
October 1
Canadian River Vineyards and Winery hosts an annual wine festival every year in the fall. What makes this festival unique? The grape stomping. Burn some calories while stomping grapes and participate in other activities like shopping, live music and children’s events like horseback rides and a petting zoo.
October 7
Starting with a large parade on Main Street in Yukon, the rest of the day is full of family activities like polka music, dancing, shopping booths and more. Famous for their Kolache pastries, it’s okay to try one before the day is over — you’ve earned it with all those calories you burned while dancing.
October 29
Open Streets OKC is a day of activities focused on health in our local communities. Streets are shut down in specific areas for people to walk, bike or board to local businesses. This event also features local food and activities from health professionals to encourage the creation of healthier communities in Oklahoma.
Red Silo Productions at Reding Farm Corn Maize
September – November – Dates TBD
Maize $10
Visiting a corn maze is a great way to get your family moving. The Maize at Red Silo Productions on Reding Farm covers 35 acres and is Oklahoma’s largest maize, featuring a different theme each year, which makes each design a labyrinth of passageways. Reding Farm also features The Haunted Maize, a pumpkin patch, hayrides, cow-train rides, live music, a bonfire, duck races and a petting farm.
Chickasaw Cultural Center Fall Festival
October 21
The Fall Festival is a large event at the Chickasaw Cultural Center. Festivities include cultural and language demonstrations, traditional games, storytelling, food arbors and stomp dances.
Fall Festival Arts and Crafts Show
November 3 – 5
Located in Stillwater Oklahoma, the Fall Festival Arts and Crafts Show features over 150 vendors to kick off the holiday shopping season. Get your steps in by visiting all three of the large buildings. If you’re wanting something closer to the metro, Affair of the Heart is another large craft show located at the OKC fairgrounds October 20 – 22.
November 17
$10 per person
Located on Covell Rd in Edmond, Okla., the Edmond Outdoor Ice Rink brings family and friends together while also helping you burn some extra holiday calories. The rink also offers food truck treats and train rides from Dental Depot Christmas Express.
Oklahoma Parks
Take your family to the park this fall to get some exercise and participate in one of the many events our city offers. Becca Leon, Fitness Coordinator with the City of Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department says, “Getting people outside and active while enjoying our local parks is definitely a goal of ours. As a Parks and Recreation Department, we strive to improve the health of our community members by providing them with ample opportunity to be active both inside and outside, as well as decrease stress through physical and leisure activities.” Here are some of our favorite fall events. October 21
$20 per rider
This ghost bicycle tour is a 7 – 8 mile ride through downtown OKC and its surrounding areas, including Bricktown, the Plaza District and the Skirvin hotel.
November 4
Taking place at Wiley Post Park, more details to follow.
Guided Hikes and Education at Martin Park
Take a guided hike through Martin Park for $2 per person Tuesdays through Sundays from 9:30-5:30 p.m. These hikes are available all year round, so make sure to dress accordingly for the weather.

With the Paseo Gallery Walk the first Friday of every month and the Norman Arts Walk the second Friday of each month, your weekends this fall can be full of art, culture and fitness. Walk to participating businesses and galleries and explore hundreds of artists’ exhibits and displays.

Oklahoma Fairs
Don’t forget the local and county fairs happening in Oklahoma this fall. Popular fairs include the Oklahoma State Fair and the Pottawatomie county, Cleveland county and McClain County fairs. Make it a healthy fair visit by choosing healthier food options (try the grilled corn or grilled chicken on a stick) and try to limit your sugar intake. Take it up a notch by playing a game to see who can walk the most steps during the fair with a fitness tracker.
