June is Men's Health Month, so I On Your Health wants to encourage all men to make an appointment with your primary care doctor for an annual physical exam. Dr. Justin Sparkes, an internal medicine physician and the medical director for men's health at INTEGRIS, explains how these exams help detect and treat preventable health problems.
Hi, I'm Dr. Justin Sparkes, an internal medicine physician and the medical director for men's health at INTEGRIS. June is men's health month and we want to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.
Unfortunately, men are half as likely as women to see a health care provider for a physical exam. These exams are imperative in detecting many preventable health issues, such as heart disease or the early detection of cancer. By not completing this simple exam, men are at a much higher risk of dying of a preventable or treatable disease. In fact, men are dying at higher rates than women for nine out of the top 10 causes of death, many of which are preventable with early detection.
Men, make your health a priority. By taking care of yourself you are taking care of the loved ones around you. I encourage you to make an appointment with your primary care doctor today.
