As well as a rich heritage and an enviable track record, the heart transplant center at the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute in Oklahoma City has one of the largest and most experienced heart transplant teams in the US.
Just one year after its beginning, the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute became one of only a handful of transplant hospitals in the nation to perform a human heart transplant. The same year, Dr. Zuhdi performed Oklahoma's first piggyback heart transplant – implanting two hearts in one chest. At the time, only five such procedures had been performed in the US.
With the addition of the INTEGRIS Advanced Cardiac Care program under the leadership of James W. Long, M.D., Ph.D., our team has achieved respect across the US, with revolutionary procedures including America's first implantation of the Levacor Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), the implantation of the first total artificial heart in Oklahoma, and the first implantation of the HeartMate III in the nation.
As a part of your informed consent, we are notifying you that all CMS outcome requirements are being met by our program. We are also informing you of our current post-transplant survival rates, which we have summarized in the paragraph and table below.
The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) is a national database related to all solid organ transplants. Patient survival rates are calculated for 1 year and 3 years post-transplant. The adult heart transplant survival rates published by the SRTR in January 2022 are listed in the table below. Information specific to each transplant center is available at www.srtr.org. If you do not have access to the internet and wish to review any or all of the data available from the SRTR, our transplant coordinators will be happy to provide you with a copy at your request.
