When It Comes To Strokes, the Key Word is FAST

18 January 2016

We use the acronym F-A-S-T as a simple tool to teach children and adults the most common warning signs and symptoms of a stroke, and to call 9-1-1 immediately if they have a suspicion that a stroke has occurred.

What is FAST and what does it mean?

F is for Face Drooping

Does one side of the person’s face look uneven or is it drooping down?

A is for Arm Dropping

Is one of their arms dropping down to their side or have they lost strength in one arm?

S is for Speech Problems

Are they slurring their word or having a difficult time speaking or communicating verbally?

T is for Time to Call 9-1-1
